Motion Control Dance Secures Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Funding to Expand Mature In Motion Programme

Motion Control Dance is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded the Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Funding from the UK Government. This significant funding boost will enable the small but impactful dance charity to expand its Mature In Motion programme, further enhancing the lives of older adults through the power of movement and dance.

With this new funding, Motion Control Dance is delighted to welcome Lara Ward as a part-time dance coordinator. Lara brings a wealth of experience and a passion for making a difference through dance. Her role will be pivotal in expanding the programme and ensuring that more older adults can benefit from the physical, mental, and emotional advantages that come with creative movement.  Starting with MCD back in 2017 working with children through creative and contemporary dance styles, Lara has developed her love in working with older people in the community.  She has played an enormous role in the development & assistance of the Mature in Motion programme.

Since our first class in 2018, Motion Control Dance has been dedicated to working with older adults, offering a variety of sessions that promote health and well-being. Their Mature In Motion programme includes creative movement sessions and Tai Chi Qigong Shibashi, both of which have been widely appreciated by participants for their holistic benefits. Additionally, the charity has specialised experience working with individuals with dementia and Parkinson’s disease, providing tailored sessions that address the unique needs of these groups

The new funding will allow the charity to reach even more people in the community, offering expanded class schedules and new opportunities for engagement. With Lara Ward at the helm, the programme is set to introduce innovative approaches and activities that will enrich the lives of participants. Her expertise and enthusiasm will drive the programme forward, ensuring that Motion Control Dance continues to be a beacon of inclusivity and support.  Her work for the Meaningful Movement project in partnership with CultureStep funding from Cardiff and Vale Health Board Charity has recently been shortlisted for an Arts & Business Cymru Award this year.

The Mature In Motion programme is designed to promote physical health, mental clarity, and social interaction among older adults. Dance and movement are powerful tools for enhancing mobility, balance, and overall fitness, which are crucial for maintaining independence in later years. Furthermore, these activities provide a social outlet, combating loneliness and fostering a sense of community among participants.

Motion Control Dance’s work with those with dementia and Parkinson’s disease has been particularly impactful. Tailored dance and movement sessions help improve cognitive function, reduce anxiety, and enhance quality of life. The charity’s commitment to inclusivity and its adaptive teaching methods ensure that everyone, regardless of their physical or cognitive abilities, can participate and benefit.

The Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Funding represents a vital investment in the community, recognizing the importance of supporting initiatives that promote well-being and inclusivity. For Motion Control Dance, this funding is a validation of their hard work and dedication over the years. It provides the resources needed to take their Mature In Motion programme to new heights, reaching more people and making a greater impact.

As Motion Control Dance embarks on this exciting new chapter, the community can look forward to a host of new opportunities and initiatives aimed at improving the lives of older adults. With the support of the UK Government and the addition of Lara Ward to the team, the charity is well-positioned to continue its mission of making a difference through dance.

This funding is not just about expanding a programme; it’s about enriching lives, fostering connections, and creating a vibrant, inclusive community where everyone can experience the joy and benefits of movement. Motion Control Dance is excited about the future and the positive changes that the Mature In Motion programme will bring to the lives of many older adults in the community.

The awarding of the Shared Prosperity Levelling Up Funding marks a significant milestone for Motion Control Dance, and the charity is deeply grateful for the support that will allow them to continue and expand their vital work. The community eagerly anticipates the new and enhanced opportunities that will arise from this funding, confident that Motion Control Dance will continue to set the standard for excellence and inclusivity in the world of dance and movement.
